Comedian Frank Skinner is the latest performer to confirm his attendance at this year’s Greenbelt festival.
They'll be rolling in the aisles - Funny man Frank Skinner is headed to Greenbelt
Skinner, who is well known for his frequent appearances on TV, as well as his sell out live performances and bestselling books, is one of the UK’s most successful comedians.
As well as subjects like his fondness for West Bromwich Albion football club, he frequently talks about his strong Catholic faith.
Skinner returned to his childhood faith at the age of 30 after realising that he had a problem with alcohol. In his autobiography he recounts a dream in which he was searching for God, only to be confronted by a figure who looked a bit like Abraham Lincoln, who told him simply, ‘I’m already here’.
In a later interview he told the BBC’s Mark Lawson that this was: ‘Quite a significant thing because I was really trying to find some answers… I was really trying hard, and this voice seemed to say, 'You don’t have to, I’m here.”
Now he is set to appear at the 39th Greenbelt festival as part of a diverse line up which already boasts a wide range of musicians, speakers and other performers.
Frank first won acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he won the Perrier Award in 1991. He then went on to co-host shows like Fantasy Football League, and Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned, before moving on to his chat show, The Frank Skinner Show.
He now presents comedy shows on BBC Radio 2, as well as hosting Absolute Radio's Saturday Breakfast Show. In 2011, the podcast of his show was downloaded over 10 million times, making it the most successful commercial radio podcast of all time.
Also in 2011, Skinner hosted an In Conversation event with the Archbishop of Canterbury, where he laid out his strong opinions on ‘The New Atheists’, and jokingly demanded that Dr Williams ‘do something about them’.
Greenbelt takes place from 24th-27th August at Cheltenham Racecourse. Tickets are on sale now and available from the festival website. An adult weekend ticket costs £120.00.
