Ring Of Prayer On Standby

Christians who have pledged to form a ring of prayer around protestors if they are evicted from the Occupy camp at St Paul's Cathedral, are preparing to take action.

The protestors, who are campaigning against corporate greed, will be told on Wednesday whether or not they have been successful in their appeal against a High Court ruling that they must leave their protest camp.

Now more than 300 people, who include Christians of various denominations, have promised to surround the camp in silent prayer if bailiffs and police should attempt to forcibly remove the protestors.

The camp was established in October, after protestors had originally attempted to set up a camp outside London Stock Exchange which is close to the Cathedral.

The move to the Cathedral eventually caused such a row that the Canon Chancellor Giles Fraser resigned from his post after disagreeing with colleagues over the best way to deal with the camp.

Other camps in the UK including one set up outside Bristol Cathedral, have dispersed after court rulings, and after having been infiltrated by homeless people and drug abusers.

But Occupy LSX has so far staved off eviction, with a high profile media and legal campaign.

Earlier this week Occupy Protestors said: "During nearly four months of continuous occupation at St Paul’s churchyard, a diverse group of citizens have joined voices with the global Occupy movement, making a stand on corporate greed, banking reform, executive pay and economic injustice.

“In doing so, they have successfully influenced the political debate throughout the UK and beyond.

"Occupy London is calling for all supporters and concerned citizens to stand with us at this crucial moment and show solidarity with the ideals we are fighting for.

"We recognise that people will want to show their support in different ways. We ask that, whatever you do, you consider the legal implications of your actions and the impact these might have on your own position and on the movement as a whole."
