Hotly anticipated, the latest live album from Hillsong promises to enthrall worshippers worldwide.
Every year, without exception, Hillsong have released a live album featuring hit songs written by their worship leaders. In order to be so prolific and consistent, you’d expect Hillsong to have established a solid system, a well-oiled machine that equips musicians and songwriters to produce songs for the Church. In suggesting that, you’d be exactly right. The global movement that finds its roots (and strength of following) in Sydney, Australia has established ‘Hillsong College’ to equip young people called to ministry.
Hillsong represent thousands of worshippers’ feelings, desires and musical tastes. They aren’t really what one would call a ‘band’. Perhaps they could be termed an ‘outfit’ or a ‘movement’ but the result is sure: Hillsong continue to nurture the growth of the Church around the world, and their musical work makes up a significant part of this creative contribution.
News hot off the press is that the latest (and greatest?) Hillsong live album for 2012 will be called ‘Cornerstone’. Creative Director Reuben Morgan collaborated with other worship leaders to change the hymn ‘My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less’ bringing a contemporary feel and a new meaning to lyrics first published in the 1830s. With a new melody and chorus, ‘Cornerstone’ is the title track of this album:
‘‘Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Saviour’s love
Through the storm, he is Lord
Lord of all’’
Recorded at the Allphones Arena in Sydney last year, ‘Cornerstone’ features worship anthems from Reuben Morgan, Joel Houston, Ben Fielding and the ageless Darlene Zschech. A preliminary track list has been released. The fourteen songs named include ‘Your Love So High’ (which Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin helped Reuben to write), ‘Your Grace Abounds’, ‘Endless Light’ and ‘My Soul Sings’ among other fantastic tunes.
Due for release on July 2nd, look out for updates, reviews, and more from the Eden.co.uk blog.
