Thousands of worshippers across the UK are being made to feel old as Delirious? announce the release of their 20th Anniversary album ‘The Cutting Edge Years’.
The band originally from Littlehampton, West Sussex played their first gig in October 1992 to just 75 people, but went on to change the shape of the Christian music scene by advancing a new genre: Christian rock.
Gaining popularity as ‘The Cutting Edge Band’, the name ‘Delirious?’ came about in 1996 following a car crash involving lead singer Martin Smith and bassist Jon Thatcher, which left Smith in hospital, broken and depressed.
Undeterred, Delirious? recorded their first studio album ‘King of Fools’ which hit mainstream success, propelling the band to fame in the UK and across the States.
The band went on to release popular albums in ‘Mezzamorphis’ ‘Glo’ and ‘Audio Lessonover?’ and they toured with (among others) Bon Jovi and Matchbox Twenty.
Following this pioneering venture into the mainstream, Delirious? returned to their roots in 2005 with ‘World Service’ - a trilogy of EPs - before releasing ‘The Mission Bell’ and ‘Kingdom of Comfort’.
Finally, Delirious? released the live album ‘My Soul Sings’ and a Greatest Hits album ‘History Makers’ before announcing a farewell European tour, ending at a sold-out Hammersmith Apollo.
Delirious? has inspired worship leaders and artists such as Tim Hughes, Michael W. Smith, TobyMac and Phil Wickham to provide increasing diversity and variation for the Christian music scene.
Popularity in the mainstream is now possible for Christian artists, as Delirious? changed perceptions with the advancement of the Christian rock genre.
Churches continue to sing songs by Delirious? because of the enduring value of the lyrical content and the uplifting vibe attached, as well a lasting applicability in worship.
The band’s affinity with chart success has continued - a Facebook campaign launched the re-released ‘History Maker’ into a top-five position in the UK Official Singles Chart, and to number 3 in the iTunes store.
This 20th Anniversary Album from Delirious? brings together their most influential earlier works taken from ‘The Cutting Edge 1&2’, ‘Three & Fore’ and ‘Live and In the Can’. Classic hits ‘Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble’, ‘I Could Sing of Your Love Forever’ and ‘The Happy Song’ are featured.
Furthermore, an accompanying DVD boasts eight earlier hits performed at the band’s farewell gig, live at the Hammersmith Apollo, a performance with the London Community Gospel Choir and ‘The Delirious Story’. To complete the pack, six limited edition postcards are included.
An exciting gift for a long-time Delirious? fan or for someone who needs an introduction to their work, this is a comprehensive collection.
Come April 23rd, worshippers across the globe will celebrate 20 years of Delirious? with the release of this ‘The Cutting Edge Years’.
