Delirious? - Cutting Edge years celebrated

Claire Musters

Hit making worship band Delirious? are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their ground breaking Cutting Edge EP - with a special retrospective collection.

The Cutting Edge Years

Delirious? were one of the UK's most successful Christian bands of all time, and made their mark in the mainstream charts with eight Top 40 UK singles including a No 4 hit in 2010 with 'History Maker'.

Now record company Kingsway are set to celebrate the occasion by releasing the immense 3 CD, 1 DVD, 42-track set: Delirious? The Cutting Edge Years 20th Anniversary Edition on 23 April.

In January 2012 Worship Leader Magazine voted Cutting Edge 1&2 the Most Influential Worship Album of the last two decades.

Other worship leaders have been eager to endorse what a significant impact Delirous? had on them, right from the early Cutting Edge years.

Tim Hughes said: "I remember the first time I ever listened to 'Obsession'. I was blown away by the honesty and passion. It was a worship song like I had never heard before – fresh lyrics full of imagination and vivid imagery with a deep heart cry for more of God."

Chris Tomlin said: "The first time I heard 'Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble?' I couldn't understand a word of the chorus but I caught every bit of the spirit of it. It is one of the best written and most unique worship songs of our time."

Tim Jupp, former Delirious? keyboard player and manager, and now BigChurchDayOut organiser, remembers: "Cutting Edge grew out of a small town youth event – we just wanted to create an environment to explore worship more than is possible on a Sunday. It was basically two hours of worship and flying by the seats of your pants and seeing where it takes you."

Singer Martin Smith said: "Cutting Edge was a unique time in our lives and these songs were the soundtrack to a movement that hungered after God in a new way. A movement that sang in the streets and saw the mountains tremble."

The Anniversary Edition contains 42 tracks on 3 CDs and 1 DVD. The CDs cover Cutting Edge One, Two, Three and Four as well as Live And In The Can. The DVD features the band's live performance of many of these early classics at the last ever Delirious? gig. Other bonus material is included.
