There is a definite link between being stirred spirituality and being stirred sensually, says Jeff Lucas in his new book There are no strong people.
Author Jeff Lucas
For Colorado based Lucas, a well-known speaker, broadcaster and speaker, this, his 20th book, is something of a departure.
His publisher, Lynette Brooks of CWR said: “One critic said that it reads like a Grisham novel, and another that it is both theologically deep and a real page turner – those elements don’t often go together.
“We are really excited to be publishing this book because of the passion that oozes out of it. It is certainly Jeff at his most powerful, prophetic, perceptive and provocative.”
The book centres around Samson – whom Jeff believes is one of the most misunderstood characters in the Bible, and Jeff says he wants people to come away with a message of hope after reading it.
He said: “sometimes our weaknesses are the components of our strengths. I believe Jesus works on a rubbish heap and love the image of Him wearing wellies, wading through the mess that is our lives.
“I did take a risk writing this book, as I haven’t flinched from the bawdiness in Samson’s story. It was also hard writing such raw stuff – you have to face the implications in yourself.
“It is costly in today’s Church to be honest. If you say it the way it is people get twitchy. I knew that talking about sex explicitly would wind people up. But why is it so hard for Christians to talk about the normal stuff of life?
“We shouldn’t be surprised when a Christian leader makes bad decisions and loses his reputation. People say ‘I always thought he was a good person’ – he was, and still is. I believe there are no good or bad people; we are all capable of being both. And there are no strong people.”
