Children’s films and Christmas time go hand in hand. We can all share fond memories of the films we watched from our childhood Christmas’. For my fiancée it was ‘The Sound of Music’ (and still is), whilst for me it was ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’ (and still is too). So if you’re looking to create family Christmas memories with more than glistening snow and twinkly music, with solid Christian morals and top-quality entertainment, here’s what Veggie Tales have to offer you.
Synopsis: A Veggie makeover of the 1939 Shirley Temple movie – ‘A Little Princess’. Sara Crewe, daughter of a wealthy cucumber, is both rich in money and family. But then tragedy strikes, turning her riches into rags. Sara must remember what her father taught her and discover where her true worth lies.
Christian Message: Sara Crewe parallels her plight with the story of Joseph from Genesis. She learns that even when she is literally penniless, she’s still God’s little princess, loved and protected by her heavenly father.
Age Range: 3 to 7
Running Time: Approx 45 minutes

Synopsis: A dramatised Veggie-version of the 1940’s American Christmas Song – ‘The Little Drummer Boy’. Junior Asparagus, a little lad who loves to bang his drum, runs away from the cruelty of the world. Three Wise Men persuade him to journey with them to visit Bethlehem where the little asparagus discovers the true meaning of Christmas.
Christian Message: The little drummer learns generosity, hope and love through visiting the birth of Jesus. Bob the Wise Tomato teaches us that the only gift Jesus wants for Christmas is us.
Age Range: 3 to 7
Running Time: Approx. 45 minutes

Synopsis: An original Veggie Tales script, this DVD travels back in time to a little vegetable and tells the story of Father Christmas. Laura Carrot is worried she won’t get a present this Christmas, but Bob reassures her by telling her a story about St. Nicholas. He discovered something that completely changed his life, turning him into the jolly generous man we all know and love.
Christian Message: Certainly my favourite message from the Veggie Tales bunch. Laura Carrot discovers the joy of giving comes from the knowledge of the Christmas story. God gave us his son, so we can joyfully give back with a huge smile on our face because – God gave first!
Age Range: 3 to 7
Running Time: Approx 50 minutes

Synopsis: Set in Victorian London, Bob & Larry are putting the final touches to their very own Christmas Musical called ‘The Princess and the Plumber’ when they hear some unfortunate news. The local church’s Christmas pageant is opening on the same night! But they’ve got something extra special up their sleeve – ‘The Star of Christmas’ – a priceless artifact which hasn’t been since in 80 years. Just how far will Bob & Larry go to keep their audience?
Christian Message: Bob & Larry miss completely what Christmas is all about. The famous vegetable double act are thrown in jail for their crimes where they learn who the real ‘star’ of Christmas is. But don’t worry, they redeem themselves at the end.
Age Range: 3 to 7
Running Time: Approx 48 minutes
To view the trailer, go to ‘The Star of Christmas’ product page.
Synopsis: This classic Veggie Tales movie from the age of the VHS tells the story of Christmas at Dinkletown. Everyone child wants more and more and more toys because the money-hungry toymaker, Wally P. Nezzer, has brainwashed them with a TV commercial. Sound familiar? One toy decides enough is enough, and attempts to save the town’s greed into generosity.
Christian Message: A message that squashes the commercialised, media-driven Christmas like a grape. Christmas isn’t about getting, it’s about giving.
Age Range: 3 to 7
Running Time: Approx 30 minutes
