We Review Gods at War

Anna Hockley

If you haven't read anything by Kyle Idleman, where have you been? Since reading Not a Fan I've been eagerly awaiting the copy of Gods at War to turn up on my desk.

Gods at War is a hard-hitting, challenging read on idolatry and the traps we so often fall into; and no, we're not talking about fashioning a golden calf for the mantlepiece. Whether you struggle with a particular area of idolatry or not, at the end of the day you are in a world that's warring to win your heart - and not in a good way!

Idleman's style is informative, engaging and cuts straight to the heart of the issue. The topics include the usual suspects: sex, success and money, plus a few that you might never have thought about; like comfort and family. Each chapter includes space for reflection and, though the issues may be personal, this book will certainly get you analysing your heart - and this time, in a good way!

This book is for every Christian seeking to live for God in a way that truly honours him in line with the commandment: 'You shall have no other gods before me'. Idleman is the first to admit that this is a huge challenge for believers, which he illustrates with real-life stories and practical applications. Accessible, but certainly not an 'easy' read, if you're looking for a Christian life book that will make you stop and think then this is for you. Prepare to let God start winning the war for your heart.
