The Legends of Prayer: The Prayers that Covered us, Carried us, and Still Speaks Before God
There are prayers that seem to reach beyond the moment they were spoken.
Some prayers were prayed beside a child's bed. Some were prayed in a kitchen before the sun came up. Some were prayed at church altars, hospital rooms, family gatherings, funerals, revivals, Bible classes, and quiet places where no one heard but God. Some prayers came through tears. Some came through fasting. Some came through burden. Some came through love.
The Legends of Prayer was written to honor the spiritual legacy of prayer while giving all glory to God. This book is not about worshiping people. It is not about making men or women greater than the Lord. It is about recognizing how God used praying parents, grandparents, ministers, mothers, fathers, saints, prophets, churches, and intercessors to cover others, stand in the gap, and leave a testimony of faith that still speaks.
A prayer legacy is the spiritual impact left behind by a life of prayer. It is not about making the person famous, and it is not about giving glory to man. All glory belongs to God. A prayer legacy is about recognizing how God used a praying person, a praying parent, a praying minister, a praying mother, a praying father, or a praying church to cover others, intercede for others, and leave spiritual fruit that continued beyond the moment they prayed.
A prayer legacy is what happens when prayers are planted like seeds before God. The person may pray in secret, but God hears openly. The person may pray with tears, but God remembers. The person may pray for children, family, souls, churches, communities, deliverance, healing, wisdom, or salvation, and the fruit of those prayers may continue into another season or even another generation.
James 5:16 KJV says:
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
This means that sincere, faithful, fervent prayer has great power because the living God hears and responds according to His will.
A prayer legacy does not mean that a person's prayer replaces our own responsibility to pray. It means we honor the spiritual covering, sacrifice, and intercession of those who prayed before us, while also accepting the call to become people of prayer ourselves.
The prayers of faithful parents, grandparents, ministers, and saints can leave a mark on a family. They can help shape faith, encourage repentance, strengthen children, cover homes, and influence generations. Their prayers are not powerful apart from God, but because God is faithful, He remembers, answers, and works through prayer.
Cornelius gives us a beautiful biblical example. Acts 10:4 KJV says:
"Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God."
His prayers were remembered before God. This shows us that prayer can rise before the Lord as a memorial. What is prayed in faith is not wasted.
In this book, each chapter will explore the prayer legacy of a person or group in Scripture. We will look at what they prayed, why they prayed, how God responded, what fruit came from their prayer, and what the born-again believer can learn from their example today.
A prayer legacy is not only what someone prayed in their lifetime. It is the spiritual fruit that continues because God heard, remembered, and answered according to His will.
This is the heart of The Legends of Prayer: ordinary people who became spiritually unforgettable because they prayed, believed God, interceded for others, and left a testimony of faith that still speaks.
My prayer is that this book will stir the heart of every reader to value prayer again. May it remind us of the prayers that covered us, the saints who prayed before us, and the God who never forgets a righteous prayer prayed in faith.
Be blessed. Minister Dorine Daniels.
