Creative ways to use bible stories in the classroom

Bible stories can do so much more than tick a curriculum box. When used creatively, they help children explore values, think deeply, and have fun. Here are three engaging ways to use Bible stories in the classroom:

1. Retelling Through Roleplay
Choose a story like David and Goliath or The Good Samaritan. After reading it from The Lion Storyteller Bible or The Jesus Storybook Bible, invite children to act it out. Provide simple props or costumes to encourage participation.

2. Story-Inspired Crafts
Stories like Noah’s Ark or Jesus Calming the Storm lend themselves to great art sessions. Use Bible Story Activity Books or Bible Craft Activites for colouring, puzzles, and creative follow-up activities.

3. Discussion & Reflection
Read stories from The Boy Who Shares his Sandwich or play-through favourite Bible stories with the Happyland series and ask open-ended questions. What would you do in that situation? How would you feel? This promotes empathy and deeper thinking.

Mixing storytelling, creativity, and conversation makes RE sessions lively and memorable. All resources mentioned are available from our purpose-built Education Hub!
