FAQs

When should I begin reading a daily Advent devotional?

It depends on the book’s structure:

  • December 1st: Most dated devotionals begin on December 1st and conclude on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
  • First Sunday of Advent: Traditional liturgical devotionals follow the Western Christian calendar, beginning on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day (2026 Advent Sunday is 29th November). We recommend ordering by mid-November to have your book ready before December begins.

What is the difference between an Advent devotional and a standard daily devotional?

A standard daily devotional often journeys sequentially through a book of the Bible or touches on general Christian living. An Advent devotional focuses explicitly on the biblical themes of the season: longing, prophecy fulfilled, the first coming of Christ in the Nativity, and the joyful expectation of His second coming.

How much time does each day's reading typically take?

Most standard Advent devotionals require just 5 to 10 minutes per day, making them easy to weave into morning coffee, quiet times, or evening wind-downs. More in-depth theological or commentary-style studies may take 15 to 20 minutes.

Are there devotionals that extend past Christmas Day?

Yes. While many stop on December 25th, several liturgical devotionals carry on through the "Twelve Days of Christmas," culminating in the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. Such as the Church of England’s Advent campaign The Gift of Christmas or 40 Days With Labyrinths For Advent And Epiphany by Fay Rowland.

Can Advent devotionals be reused in future years?

Undated devotionals—such as thematic studies on the names of Jesus or the songs of Luke—can easily be revisited year after year. Dated devotionals tied to specific calendar dates (Dec 1–25) are also easily reusable, whereas lectionary-tied devotionals depend on the specific three-year lectionary cycle (Year A, B, or C).
