Hope

Hope

The Autobiography

With a wealth of revelations and unpublished stories, moving and very human, poignant and dramatic, but also capable of real humour, Pope Francis’s memoir starts off in the early years of the twentieth century with the story of his Italian roots and his ancestors’ adventure of emigration to Latin America, moving on to his childhood, adolescence, choice of vocation, adult life, covering the whole of his papacy up to the present day.

In recounting his memories with intimate narrative force (not forgetting his own personal passions), Pope Francis deals unsparingly with some of the crucial moments of his papacy and writes candidly, fearlessly and prophetically about some of the most important and controversial questions of our present times: war and peace (including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East), migration, environmental crisis, social policy, the position of women, sexuality, technological developments, the future of the Church and of religion in general.

The book, destined to fascinate readers throughout the world and to represent a legacy of hope for future generations, is enhanced by remarkable photographs, including private and unpublished material made personally available by the Pope himself.

Written with Carlo Musso, former Non-Fiction Editorial Director of Piemme and Sperling & Kupfer, and then founder of the independent publisher Libreria Pienogiorno, in accordance with the wishes of Pope Francis this exceptional document was originally intended to be published after his death, but the new Jubilee of Hope announced for 2025, and the needs of our times, have moved him to make this precious legacy available now.

Broken Planet

Broken Planet

If There's a God, Then Why Are There Natural Disasters and Diseases?

In Broken Planet, Dr Sharon Dirckx, scientist and apologist, offers a measured and thoughtful case for how there could be a God of love that allows natural disasters.

The question of suffering is one of the greatest hurdles to Christian faith. When believers respond to the question of why there is suffering in the world, they often turn to the free-will defence. This states that humans make choices for good or ill that can bring about suffering in the lives of others. However, that doesn't explain why children die of cancer, or why the latest earthquakes, tsunamis or pandemics have been so destructive. These seem to happen not because of our choices, but in spite of them. So how do we make sense of these events?

Dr. Sharon Dirckx blends argument, science and first-person narrative in this unique book, weaving answers to real questions with compassion and empathy, while also acknowledging the element of mystery we will always live with while on earth.

Dr Dirckx addresses topics such as:

  • If God exists, why would he make a world with earthquakes and tsunamis?
  • Why is there so much suffering in a natural disaster?
  • Are natural disasters God's judgement?
  • Is my illness a punishment from God?
  • What kind of God would allow natural disasters and diseases?

If you have ever struggled to reconcile the idea of a loving God with all the pain in our world, this book will encourage you that belief in such a God is not as unreasonable as it may seem. In fact, it may be where God is revealed most profoundly.

Good and Beautiful You

Good and Beautiful You

The Christian faith is about much more than belief and practices - it's also about the kind of people that we become. Yet some of the biggest barriers to our transformation come from our own toxic narratives about ourselves, narratives that shape the way we see ourselves and the way we interact with the world. We are made with a deep longing in our souls to be wanted, loved, alive and connected to God. Healing our souls requires more than knowing what God thinks about us. Our healing comes not through reason alone, but through revelation.

'The best practice I have seen in Christian spiritual formation' was Dallas Willard's endorsement of the Good and Beautiful series a decade ago. Now this fourth book in the series, The Good and Beautiful You, addresses the self-narratives that hinder spiritual growth and the desires of the soul that only God can satisfy. James Bryan Smith reminds us how Scripture reveals the beauty and goodness of our own souls and how we long for healing that only God can provide.

Complete with spiritual practices that help us live into that reality, The Good and Beautiful You will serve as a welcome companion on your journey to discover who you truly are in Christ.

Now That She's Gone: A Daughter's Reflections on Loss, Love, and a Mother's Legacy

Now That She's Gone: A Daughter's Reflections on Loss, Love, and a Mother's Legacy

A Daughter's Reflections on Loss, Love, and a Mother's Legacy

The day your mother dies is the day you acquire a powerful and persistent new companion--grief. It is also the day you become the keeper of a legacy that has the potential to affect generations to come. Between a past you can't let go of and a future you can hardly find the energy to think about, you stand. The ground may feel shaky, but it is sacred. And it must be tread.

With vulnerability and honesty, Chelsea Ohlemiller walks you through her own journey of grief at the loss of her mother in order to help you along yours. These raw reflections on heartbreak, love, and hope in the midst of sorrow can help you put words to your own tangled feelings when you are speechless with grief. Chelsea does not couch her narrative in spiritual jargon or edit her feelings into "acceptable" sentiments that ultimately mean nothing and help no one. Instead, she invites you to be radically honest about your anger, disbelief, and sorrow so that you can move forward even if it feels like you will never be able to move on.

Whether you had a great relationship with your mother or a complicated one, you will find in this book a compassionate and understanding friend for the days, months, and years to come.

God, Can We Chat?

God, Can We Chat?

A Daringly Honest Guide to Growing Closer to God, One Doubt at a Time

When we find ourselves at the crossroads of doubt and faith, distant from God and worried our faith is slipping away, it's hard to know where to turn.

Some books tell you why your faith still holds true, and despite your growing unease, they insist you hold on to and even find certainty in what you've been taught. This isn't one of those books. Yes, our questions hold power. But rather than destroying or weakening our faith, they build and strengthen it--one honest chat at a time.

God, Can We Chat? invites you to take Jesus at his word when he calls you to come as you are right now--a doubting believer or perhaps even a believing doubter--to experience the intimacy and rest your soul craves in the midst of fear, doubt, anger, or confusion. Rather than attempting to answer all your questions or settle ongoing theological debates, author Niki Hardy helps you see doubts not as the end of your faith but as the beginning of an honest and fearless relationship with God--the one who is not threatened by our questions and who calls us not to unwavering belief but unrelenting love.

Near to the Broken-Hearted

Near to the Broken-Hearted

The Comfort of Jesus in the Grief of Losing a Child

This book has been written to help heartbroken parents know and feel the nearness and tenderness of God when they are facing the loss of a child. It takes long, satisfying looks at truths and stories from the Bible, helping you to know and be comforted by God the Father as he walks with you through your darkest seasons.

The authors write with honesty, experience and compassion to encourage those who are crushed in spirit to lean heavily on Jesus. They give lots of practical advice on processing and praying through grief as well as clarity on some of the difficult questions raised by this kind of suffering.

Readers can choose whichever chapters are most relevant to their situation. There is something here for those who have just heard the news that their child is very ill, and for those who lost a child some time ago; for those who are asking painful questions, and for those seeking practical advice; for mothers carrying a pregnancy that will likely end in loss, and for family members wondering how to help their loved ones in their grief.

Every situation is different, but our Lord Jesus is always the same--and he has a special, tender nearness to the broken-hearted.

Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic

Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic

A Candid Conversation on Drinking, Addiction and How to Break Free

There's hope for alcoholics who become Christians--and for Christians who become alcoholics

· Learn what alcoholism really looks like

· Discover how to break free from destructive habits and shame

· Embrace the freedom that comes from radical honesty and vulnerability

While the Christian community loves stories of salvation, it struggles with stories of sanctification--the often-messy journey of becoming like Jesus. As a result, many Christians who stumble are mired in shame, especially when it comes to one of society's biggest post-Covid obsessions: alcohol. But there is hope for those willing to rethink their drinking.

In Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic, Jonathon M. Seidl vividly tells his own story of disordered drinking. Not only does he address the roots of addiction, trauma, and the often-overlooked reality that Christians aren't immune to sin struggles, he also reframes the term alcoholic and shares the practical yet spiritual four-step process he used to break free--a process readers will find helpful for working through many of life's struggles.

Written in an engaging, conversational style, Confessions shows that there's hope for Christians who become alcoholics, not just for alcoholics who become Christians.
