PRESS ON!
Philippians is not easy book to digest. It is filled with examples of Paul and other exemplary partners in the gospel. It exhorts, encourages and urges those who read and hear it to "forget what is behind and straining on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
This may sound inspiring and but first take a good look around you and think about what you are signing up for.
These are not ordinary, run of the mill believers; this guy Paul is a fanatic! He says things like "To live is Christ but to die is gain." So what you can expect in Philippians is a lively expression of Paul sounding off with joy about living a life that does whatever it takes to 'PRESS ON' WHEN IT COMES TO THE GOSPEL MESSAGE. The 5 Rs are employed by the author as In her previous work and are briefly described below:
This application developed from years of inductive study opens the door to self- discovery and sets the stage for deeper study of your own without depending solely on commentaries. Letting the text speak out from a larger context is invaluable as you move from observation to interpretation and application. Contrary to what you may have been taught, there is only one correct interpretation for each text and one application. Knowing this points to the importance of doing thorough observation before moving on to interpretation which is the key to proper application. This volume in the series Emineth has created is short, concise and evokes joy at every turn. Even as Paul writes with shackled wrists under the watchful eye of the praetorian guard, he is upbeat and optimistic that regardless of the motives of some preachers in question, Christ is preached and he can rejoice in spite of his own predicament. The word "gospel" is also a key repeated word in this text and can only be understood in its context. As it is recorded in other texts, it means good news. But here the word suffering seems to go hand in hand with the propagation of this message. There is an incident written about in Acts while Paul and Silas preached the gospel. Severely beaten, put in stocks after incarceration, they sang hymns of joy, and the jailer found them released from their chains! Consequently the jailer and his entire household were saved. Paul offers valuable insights into the person and work of Christ, how to's on dealing with people and forces which undermine confidence and even some joy-filled ways to handle fellow workers! In all he comes out rejoicing, content and relying on God for all his needs.
