Discerning the Pastoral Call with Scripture and the Church

For many, the call to pastoral ministry begins quietly—a growing eagerness to steward one’s gifts, teach God’s Word, and shepherd his flock. But how can a believer discern whether their desires are truly a calling from God?

In this book, Guy Prentiss Waters pulls from decades of mentorship experience to help men answer important questions about the qualifications, duties, trials, and joys of this weighty call. Through a concise, Reformed analysis, he examines what Scripture says about Christian vocation, inviting readers to examine themselves, pray, seek wise counsel, and meditate upon the Bible’s teaching. As men press on toward their calling with wisdom and discernment, they will learn to trust in God, knowing that he sufficiently empowers them to take on any vocation with fervor and dependence on him.
