According to tradition, Saint Veronica wiped the face of Jesus on His way to Calvary, and His image was miraculously imprinted on the cloth (the vera icon, "true image"). Although this is not explicitly mentioned in the Gospels, this pious tradition is very ancient, is integrated into the Stations of the Cross, and symbolizes the human desire to console God in His suffering, inviting us to contemplate and make reparation for the offenses committed against Christ in His Passion.

Devotion to the Holy Face has flourished throughout the centuries and, in recent times, was especially promoted by Sister Maria Pierina De Micheli, who received this central message: "I want My Face to be more honored. Whoever contemplates Me, consoles Me." Inspired by this call, Prayers to the Holy Face of Jesus gathers traditional prayers, a special novena, biblical reflections, and spaces to write intentions, becoming an itinerary of prayer, reparation, and hope.
