We all come into this world with such high hopes and optimism. Our hearts are bursting with good feelings represented in this parable by a full fountain. We have huge appetites and want to gorge ourselves on the feast of wonders that the world offers. It doesn't take long for our little hearts to be broken when we are scolded by our parents, teased at school or fail to meet our own high expectations. The balloon pops. We lose the running race. We break our favourite toy. We are told by our parents that we are a princess or prince and yet our friends at school have nicer hair and look more like Barbie or Ken than we do. The fullness of our hearts starts to leak out through these cracks in the reservoir walls of our souls and there is a real danger that we may turn to cracked cisterns of nourishment that do not satisfy, and we become our own worst enemy. Challenges and disappointments are inevitable. It's all about how we respond to them internally. Do we embrace life or turn away and get more fragmented by the monsters that lurk within. This story describes the adventures of two children as they encounter external obstacles and difficulties and learn how to overcome their internal demons and mental health issues and uncover their true peace and meaning in Christ, the hidden wholeness.
