'Nicest man' in Football is new England Boss

The old adage goes that “nice guys” finish last but the case of new England manager proves otherwise. The nice guy - Roy Hodgson is the new England manager

The 64 year-old Croydon born Manager whose managerial career has taken in stints in 16 different countries including- Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Denmark, was once called the ‘nicest man in football’, and is highly respected by his peers and players who have worked with him.

Hodgson was named England Manger today after beating the “people’s” choice for the job- Spurs Manager Harry Redknapp, who has turned around Spurs fortunes since taking over in 2008, and has signed a 4-year contract, which will see him oversee England’s 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016 campaigns.

Multi-lingual (Hodgson speaks 5 languages- Norwegian, Italian, Swedish, German and Japanese) he has managed 3 national teams- Switzerland, Finland and the United Arab Emirates, leading the former to the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup finals as well as helping them to qualify for Euro 96’.

His successful 4-year-spell as Swiss boss also saw him lead the team to their highest ever World ranking of 3rd place; and despite a lowly win ratio of only 27.6% he nearly led Finland to their first ever major championship- the Finns just missing out on qualification for Euro 2008.

His club career has seen him manage Inter Milan (twice), Blackburn, Fulham, Liverpool, FC Copenhagen, Malmo, and a host of other clubs. Thirteen pieces of silverware including the Swedish title, Danish title and Super Cup, as well as a Champions League runners-up spot with Inter Milan in 1997, and an Europa League runners up spot with Fulham in 2010, show Hodgson’s pedigree.

A good tactician and man manager, who is highly experienced, he seems to have the tools required to do a decent job. His appointment proves that you can be a nice guy and still succeed in life.
