Giving Tuesday 2019 - Compassion

Laura White

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving, where anyone, anywhere can support the good causes that mean the most to them. This Giving Tuesday we want to thank you so much for shopping with Eden and for your servant-hearted generosity.

Since 2016, you have raised thousands of pounds by buying charity Christmas and Easter cards which support the work of Compassion.

Compassion’s approach to fighting poverty is highly focussed and personal. It’s summed up in three words: compassion for children. For 66 years, they have been giving children the opportunity to escape the suffering and fear poverty brings.

Your amazing donations have helped to fund two fantastic projects.

Gotitas de Amor Child Development Centre, Mexico

Based in Mexico the Gotitas de Amor Child Development Centre intervention saw the build of four new purpose-built classrooms. Before this intervention, there were not enough classrooms at the centre for all of the children. This meant the older children had to make a sacrifice for their younger schoolmates and have their classes under trees outside. Harsh sunlight, dust, wind and rain all impacted upon their ability to study. Support was needed if these children were going to be able to learn in the safe environment they deserve.

So far, 243 children and 22 caregivers have benefitted from this project. This has only been made possible because of your support.

KKKT Mburiashi Child Development Centre, Tanzania

The KKKT Mburiashi Child Development Centre in urban Tanzania provided an essential role in the educational prospects of children and young people who would otherwise be facing a future of crime and unemployment.

However, due to a lack of funding the essential activities and resources couldn’t be provided and as a result young people were becoming disengaged.

Your donations made it possible to provide essential vocational training, empowering these young people in their confidence, education and career prospects.

These training workshops include skills in carpentry, baking and filmography or photography. Whilst the young people have acquired skills for future employment, they have also enjoyed the workshops and utilised the skills already. Since its inception, 62 compassion-supported children have gained vocational skills and a further 60 adults have benefitted from workshops.

Thank you for making this possible.
