I can’t quite believe it but we are already into October! The next few months will be packed, for many, with light parties, advent services, carol concerts and much more. The rest of the year could easily run away with us and before we know it, we’ll be into 2018!
To help you get ahead, amongst the chaos, we’ve compiled a list of the best Church calendar resources, the perfect companion for an organised new year.
Common Worship Lectionary Advent 2017 to the Eve of Advent 2018
Everything you need for the upcoming liturgical year, this essential Lectionary has been a trusted companion in preparing worship for many years.
Beginning with Advent Sunday 2017 (December 3rd), this new Common Worship Lectionary contains all the key features of the Lectionary, as well as a guide to the liturgical colours of the day, reading for all main Church occasions and Saints Days, and complete Lectionary references to the Principal, Second and Third services for Sundays and Principal Feasts and Holy Days.
The paperback edition is also available in large print format.
The SPCK Lectionary provides a streamlined and clearly laid-out presentation of the Common Worship calendar and lectionary, with readings from the Book of Common Prayer on the same page. Sundays and major festivals are covered, as well as weekday services, making this an essential for any Church using the Common Worship or BCP calendars.
Available in paperback, spiral-bound and cased format.
Church Pocket Book and Diary 2018
Available in a range of colours and designs, these attractive, and easy-to-use diaries with fully up-to-date reference material are essential for churchgoers and clergy.
The diary pages are laid out with one week to view, beginning with Sunday and including the whole of December and Advent. Names of Sundays and dates of festivals correspond to the Common Worship calendar and lectionary, and the Book of Common Prayer. There are pages at the back for personal memoranda, addresses and telephone numbers.
This hardback edition of the bestselling church desk diary provides one page per weekday and a double page spread for Sundays, making it ideal for advance planning and day-to-day working. Readings from the Common Worship and Book of Common Prayer are listed for each day and on Sundays, Holy Days and major Saints' days, the Common Worship collects and sentences are printed out in full.
Its many extra features include extensive national and diocesan church information, lists of organisations, table of fees, accounts section, a two-year planner, sunrise and sunset times, plus ample space for recording personal information.
The Canterbury Preacher's Companion 2018
An annual favourite, the Canterbury Preacher's Companion provides a total of 150 complete sermons for the coming year, with hymn suggestions.
For each Sunday of the year, there are two sermons based on the Principal and Second Service lectionaries, plus a section of sermons for special occasions - Mothering Sunday, Harvest, Baptism, Marriage, Funerals - and for all major saints' days.
In addition, it offers at-a-glance summaries of the Bible readings, seasonal introductions, a full-colour liturgical calendar and hymns suggestions throughout the year.
