Choice Words are celebrating 21 years this year under the ownership of Pam and Roy Brittle. Their main shop is located in Newton Abbot Devon; in addition they have four small outlet shops in Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Totnes.
These are variously situated in a conference centre, a Church Cafe and in Church Buildings. Each ‘outpost’ is serviced each week with fresh stock and orders.
Owners Roy and Pam Brittle have seen big changes in the Christian Book trade over the years and, in recent years have operated more as a ministry than a business. Roy says, “The competition from on-line trading is challenging but our heart is for our shop to remain on the high street as God’s witness.
“2015 has been a busy year for us with nine outside events to date. Some of these events have been big, others only small but our total sales for outside events this year (at the end of May) is £11,500. We place a lot of importance on outside events; it keeps us in the public eye and puts us in contact with people who don’t come into the shop.”
In the year to end-May total sales were showing a year on year increase of 24% and Roy says, “It is hard work but we are encouraged on a number of fronts.”
