David Phelps is Coming to London

James Warwood

David Phelps of ‘The Gaither Vocal Band’ is coming to perform his superb classical album – Classic – at the indigO2 venue in Greenwich, London on 25th June 2013.

The O2 Arena’s little sister, the indigO2 isn’t really that little. Part standing room below, part amphitheatre with seating above - which sometimes becomes table seating, it’s still one of the biggest venues in the capital with a capacity of 2,350. Due to play the impressive venue this year are such greats as Level 42, The B-52’s and Chas & Dave.

Currently touring with ‘The Gaither Vocal Band’, David Phelps will be performing his latest album to the O2 crowd – ‘Classic’. With a classical, orchestral sound, impressive arrangements and his powerful voice, the indigO2 will be brought to life with the sound of strings, hymns, gospel, classical music and David’s rich tenor tones. Whoever grabs a ticket will be in for an once-in-a-lifetime treat.

As a collective, ‘The Gaither Vocal Band’ has received four Dove Awards, two Grammy Awards, and more than 13 gold and 15 platinum-selling projects. As a soloist, David received 2009 Dove Award nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year and Long Form Video for his Christmas DVD, 'O Holy Night'. And his unforgettable voice is matched only by his deep understanding of music.

While earning his degree in vocal performance from Baylor University (a top Christian University in Texas), David was given numerous opportunities to venture into the world of secular music. “I had several teachers who felt that I should be singing opera or performing somewhere on Broadway,” he recalls. “In college particularly, I had a teacher who kept pushing me strongly toward classical music, but when she finally accepted that Christian music was what God was calling me to do, that became the turning point for me.”

While studying at Baylor, David met Lori Purtle, who has been his wife and rock-solid support for nearly two decades. The couple has four great kids – Callie, Maggie Beth, Grant and Coby – and the Phelps reside in the country outside Nashville, Tennessee.

The tickets are now on sale, and the album he’ll be performing whilst wearing his trademark dickie bow is available here at Eden – Classic CD, or the Classic DVD Performance – so you can get a taste of what you can expect from the Nashville Christian Megastar.
