“There is a sound that changes things…” - Awake
With a 30+ year history and legacy of live worship albums, "Awake" is Hillsong Worship's first studio album in almost two decades. Hillsong Worship has always represented the 'sound' of Hillsong Church. The opportunity to capture and express that through studio recordings was a catalyst for a sonic experience that is utterly true to the spirit and legacy of Hillsong Church whilst being significantly unique in the current worship music landscape.
The songs of "Awake" rouse the listener. Community, humanity and divinity tangibly inform the sounds across the record as worship leaders voices are set against everything from harps to horn ensembles; synths to human percussion; spontaneous worship, small vocal ensembles and big choir to soaring guitars and the rustling, rumbling texture of intercession.
Lyrically, revival (awakening) is front and centre - completing the picture Hillsong Church has prophesied to the greater Church this year as senior pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston declared "revival is in the air" and then Hillsong United released "People", followed by "Awake" from Hillsong Worship… because what is revival if not "people awake"?
Featuring songs like "King of Kings" and "No One But You", "Awake" exists to shoot adrenaline into the souls of every worshipper as they magnify Jesus and to arm the Church with songs that shift realities by the power of the Holy Spirit, fuel a move of God on the earth and bring Christ the most glory possible.

The tracklist for Awake is:
01. Dawn
02. Awake My Soul
03. Come Alive
04. See The Light
05. No One But You
06. King Of Kings
07. I Will Praise You
08. From Whom All Blessings Flow (Doxology)
09. Every Breath
10. Bright As The Sun
11. Upper Room
12. He Shall Reign
The title and message of Awake are inspired by a poem: Awaken by Lawrence Tribble. The poem puts simply and powerfully the spreading of awakeness from one man to a whole town and beyond.
“One man awake,
awakens another.
The second awakens
his next door brother.
The three awake can rouse a town
by turning the whole place upside down.
The many awake
can cause such a fuss.
It finally awakens
the rest of us.
One man up,
with dawn in his eyes,
surely then multiplies.”
Brooke Ligertwood, one of the group’s leading artists, describes Awaken’s evangelist streak, saying that “Our prayer that King of Kings ignites the fire in people’s hearts, for the gospel and for Christ’s church. The event of 2000 years ago, Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection have performed a real-time ramification for us today. It’s not just a salvation and a redemption story, it’s a creation story.”
Awake is an album of coming alive, of waking up to God’s Spirit.
