Israel God’s Servant
This book is a reworking of papers previously brought to “conferences, public meetings and study groups” in the Church of Scotland. David Torrance, a retired pastor of the Church of Scotland and George Taylor, rather bizarrely, is a pseudonym. The first part looks at the Middle East conflict historically, explains Islamic Fundamentalism, and gives a brief theology of Israel and the Land. It is a good and adequate overview.
The second part covers anti-Semitism which is described as: “a rejection of God and his plans for our salvation”.
The third part looks at the “signs of the times,” which includes the restoration of Israel. It examines the mysterious nature of Jewish identity and God’s role for Israel, raising again the question of how Jewish believers in Jesus are to express their Jewishness.
There is also a critique of replacement theology, and a brief exegesis of Romans 9-11. This book will stimulate your thinking. I recommend it.
