Wendy Robinson (1934–2013) examines the Christian contemplative tradition in Life in Christ, a lively and deeply personal exploration of prayer, transformation, and spiritual growth in the modern world. Originating in a talk given at an inter-religious congress in 1971, the book addresses questions of meditation, dialogue, suffering, silence, and the search for authentic spiritual experience with warmth, humour, and honesty.
Drawing on Scripture, T. S. Eliot, Thomas Merton, St Teresa of Ávila, and many others, Robinson presents Christianity not as an abstract system of ideas but as a living encounter with God in the midst of ordinary life. She writes vividly about the disciplines of prayer, the struggle of self-knowledge, and the transforming power of Divine love, while remaining alert to the anxieties and dislocations of contemporary culture. Both practical and reflective, Life in Christ offers an engaging introduction to contemplative spirituality for modern readers.
