When Mary Finds Us is a socio-theological statement grounded in the African American preaching tradition that seeks to amplify the significance of Mary as pivotal in the process of humanizing the Christian faith for black people. This book attempts to bring Mary out of the historical shadows of the oppressive eurocentric darkness casts by traditional racist and sexists hermeneutics and allow her liberating presence to liberate us. Integrating the primary tents of Black Theology, Womanist Theology, psychology, and the arts, Bernstine-Becton offer a hermeneutical lens toward the development of a Black Mariology.
