Bringing together contributions by leading scholars in the field of Wittgenstein-Studies, the proposed volume is meant to honor the memory of G.H. Von Wright whose manifold contributions to the field have been instrumental in advancing our understanding of the thinking of Ludwig Wittgenstein. It was Von Wright who as Wittgenstein's friend, successor in Cambridge, biographer, and one of the literary executors and collectors of Wittgenstein's Nachlass (literary estate) shaped the landscape of the field for his and coming generations of scholars. The original contributions to this volume corporately reflect all scholarly aspects of von Wright's multi-faceted work on Wittgenstein and his Nachlass. Von Wright's standard-setting work as an inveterate collector, cataloguer and editor of Wittgenstein's writings is honored by the tripartite centerpiece of the volume. A translation of letters and postcards Wittgenstein received from the German philosopher and logician Gottlob Frege from 1914 onwards, up until 1920, is included, supplemented with the original German text. This collection of essays should be of greatest interest not only to analytic philosophers and historians of philosophy and of logic, but particularly also to practicioners of the philosophy of science and to historians of science, to music theorists and to scholars in the broad field of religious studies, and to all those interested in the intellectual history of the 20th century.
