  • This present book brings forth a proposition of interpretation for the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings", by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is a reading of the series from a religious perspective, which leans especially towards the mystical. The methodological basis for this book was primarily inspired by the following writings of Antonio Manzatto: "Theology and literature: basis for a dialogue", and "Brief overview of theology and literature"; where the author elaborates his thoughts on the relevance of literary studies concerning the knowledge of religion.
  • To reach our goal specific passages have been selected, taking into consideration their religious characteristics. These scenes will be presented in chronological order, to promote the connection with the journey taken by characters Samwise Gamgee and Frodo Baggins, the Ring-bearer. These two hobbits are the main characters of this exposition. They abandon a peaceful life in the Shire to fulfill the most important mission of the Fellowship of the Ring, destroy it in the infernal region of Mordor.
  • Also, a special persona among the humans will be presented: Faramir. Besides the Ring-bearer himself, chosen to carry the burden, the other two individuals will succeed in resisting the nefarious allure of the One Ring - Samwise and Faramir. They embody virtues like those ministered by the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
