A valuable resource for clergy and those looking to study the words from the Eucharist this book tackles the questions and meanings behind the language of Common Worship.
Popular author Paula Gooder and liturgical expert Michael Perham come together to bring wisdom and insight to the words so familiar to many.
The book takes the shape of the texts as they are found in Common Worship and includes brief reflections on each section.
This book is an exploration of the biblical and theological themes in the Common Worship Eucharistic texts.
The theological formation of many Christians takes place during their weekly celebration of the Eucharist. The language of the Eucharist has a deep impact on the way that people think about God and about themselves. The problem today is that fewer and fewer Christians have any idea about the content and significance of many of the allusions that can be found in the liturgical texts.
Using the liturgical expertise of Michael Perham and the biblical expertise of Paula Gooder, this book explains the major biblical resonances of the Common Worship Eucharistic texts. The book will take the shape of the texts as they are found in Common Worship and will offer brief reflections on each in turn.

Here is a book I didn't know I needed to read until I read it. And now I think more people should read it, not just those that are involved in saying the Eucharist (though I hope most of them have some understanding of what this book addresses, though they might want to have a quick refresh too!) but also those that attend church and hear and participate in the Eucharist. For there within the liturgy of the Eucharist (C of E Common Worship, Order One in particular, but I think much of this book would hold weight for any liturgical Eucharist that follows the same or similar form) is a lot more than you might really expect and it's deeply entrenched in the Bible - not just the passages about the Last Supper, not just the prayers drawn from the Bible, but deeper in the very way it is set out, the pauses and movements and arrangements, that all have a richer biblical significance. This book really helps you see how the Eucharist is not just mere ritual but is in some ways an active embodiment of the word of God.
