Creative Ideas For Pastoral Liturgy

Product Description

Arising out of many year's experience of helping to lead local church worship and counselling work in a children's hospice, this is the first of three new volumes that focuses on the occasions when many non-churchgoers visit a church: for christenings, weddings, funerals, and memorials.

These rites of passage present key opportunities for occasional visitors to encounter the Christian faith. If they are imaginatively handled a lifelong interest can be aroused. If they are insensitively done, people can be put of for life.

This practical resource offers prayers, forms of words and many tried and tested ideas for creating rituals that give support at a time of great need following a death.

It will enable the creation of rites (based on the authorized liturgical texts) that are beautiful, memorable and meaningful. Particular help is given for that most difficult of pastoral challenges, the death of a child and the care of the bereaved family.

Creative Ideas for Pastoral Liturgy - Funeral, Thanksgiving and Memorial services

Very good resource, especially as there is a CD-ROM with all the information and templates on, so readings and prayers can be imported straight into a service (cutting down on typing and Internet searches!). Some of the best prayers/words are no more than a couple of lines so would not overload any service. The service for the death of a baby or young child and the service after a miscarriage are outstanding. BUT: time is needed in quite large doses to make full use of the suggestions, and I can picture many ministers feeling guilty about not being able to do justice to such a good resource. Memorial services and Thanksgivings may be easier as they have a longer lead up. I shall use as much as I can and try not to feel guilty about the things I can’t!

Funeral, Thanksgiving and Memorial Services with CD Rom

It is what it says on the label! An invaluable resource for those charged with the responsibility, either formally through the church, or informally wherever there is a need to remember, to acknowledge grief and face painful loss. The liturgies are sensitive and appropriate for a whole variety of situations. The death of a child and still birth are dealt with in ways that are not afraid to acknowledge that unique pain; as well as other more difficult situations such as suicide. There are songs, prayers, worship ideas and even templates for the front covers of orders of service. In addition to this well presented book there is a CD Rom which means that resources can be downloaded and incorporated into service sheets. An excellent resource dealing with a difficult subject in, as it says, a most creative way.
