In this fifth volume, Ewald concludes his monumental history of Israel by examining the restoration and the emergence of the hagiocracy under Ezra. This period, leading up to the time of Christ, is essential for understanding the cultural and religious climate of the New Testament era. Ewald provides a dense, analytical view of how the Jewish faith was structured and preserved following the exile. This work is perfect for researchers, pastors, and theology students who want to see how the foundations of post-exilic Judaism were laid. By exploring these pages, you will better grasp the context of the world into which Jesus was born, making this an invaluable addition to your theological library.
