This work was composed by Wyclif as one in a series of 12 treatises, completed between 1375 to 1382, which have been considered a summa of his writings. His approach is based on a theory that simony, selling lucrative positions, is a form of theft and therefore a heretical activity for church officials. McVeigh offers the reader who is less familiar with Wyclif's work, a synopsis of his earlier writings to which he frequently alludes. McVeigh also prefaces the book with a brief history of simony in the church, the historical time frame of Wyclif's writings and an assessment on Wyclif's theories which may have led to his position on simony. Together, these features make "Wyclif on Simony" a comprehensive volume.
