Listening For The Heartbeat Of God by Philip J. Newell is a fantastic introduction to the Celtic spirituality and its history. The book should be read by all church leaders everywhere, as well as anybody wanting to learn about Celtic history.
Newell discovers Celtic spiritual roots in the New Testament and in the mysticism of St John the Evangelist. It is discussed how John may represent the Celtic image of listening to God at all times.
J. Philip Newell has provided a unique perspective on Celtic spirituality and readers will therefore enjoy discovering the roots of Celtic faith.

This title sent me searching for more information on Pelagius – and reinforced my prejudices against Augustine….
A good introduction to the Celtic Church through the centuries, although I felt slight unease at the seeming lack of a critical overview, but perhaps this book is redressing the balance for a marginalized way of being. There is firm rock and mysticism bound together in the Celtic tradition, based in the belief in God’s good creation and God’s presence in all things. Jesus Christ is the Light by which we see and through which we see all things.
Read it and be informed of our need both for both John’s way of seeing things and Peter’s (Celtic and Roman respectively).
