Divine Participation explores the profound theology of the Gospel of John by placing two influential voices in conversation: the ancient Church Father, St Cyril of Alexandria, and the modern Egyptian desert monk, Fr Matta Al-Miskīn. This insightful volume reconstructs their respective interpretations to highlight their shared commitment to the doctrine of theosis—the human participation in the life of God. Through a careful analysis of their exegetical methods, Wagdy Samir illustrates how these two thinkers, separated by centuries but united in spirit, offer a transformative vision of the Christian life. The book serves as a vital bridge between the patristic tradition and contemporary spiritual practice, showing how the Johannine focus on divine love and union remains a beacon for the faithful today. Engaging and academically rich, this study is a must-read for those interested in Orthodox theology, church history, and the life-changing power of the Fourth Gospel.
