A Professor of Church Growth is not something we often encounter in the UK, but the author of this book holds such a title in the USA. This may put some people off the book, which has some very useful anecdotal and situational experiences of the author. He started in the Church of England and then spent a large part of his ministerial life in the USA. The books content is anglicised by the editor and has some handy advice for those who feel that the church is always on the brink of extinction, with special relevance to the fact that the age profile of the Church is getting higher each year. The author emphasises that the church is going through massive change and he offers ways of managing this, especially pointing out the need for strong leadership at all levels. Not the easiest book to read to get instant guidance, but one that has a host of useful hints and tips for the future, if you have the time to read it. (Reprinted many times since 2001 – Editor)
