One day, in a tiny church folded into the green countryside of Oklahoma City, the late Pastor Charles Evans proclaimed, as he did every week, "We don't offer you church, we offer you Jesus."

Caught off guard on this first visit, the scales fell from my eyes. Up until then, church had to look, sound, and feel a certain way. But I hadn't been changed by any of that. There was a lot of reflection. Then I began digging.

It turns out, we learned to church from a corrupted model. Every Christian has. It's evident. We, however, added our flair as we always do. But some of that flair has nothing to do with holiness.

It's churchiness.

And God is not pleased.
