this is a difficult category from which to choose only 3 top recommendations, but we're going to start with Church History 101 as a very brief introduction to chuch history. Its brevity betrays its helpfulness and it stands as a really helpful way into this subject for people who've not gone there before. Our second recommedation is Church History in Plain Language by Bruce Shelley which is a much more comprehensive survey of the history of the Church, but written in a non-academic style which makes it accessible for all. A notable mention goes to Nick Needham's 5-volume series entitled 2,000 Years of Christ's Power, however our top pick is Church History for Everyone by Kevin DeYoung. This will be a 2-volume set when finished, but the first volume covers 1,300 years of Church History taking us to the cusp of the Reformation. Like Shelley's volume, this has been well-researched and is written in a style anyone can read and enjoy.
