Nick's observations begin when his sister reacts with repulsion to a moth that Nick sees is in fact very beautiful. His sister, impressed by their differing viewpoints, says that Nick could be a "Wonderful-Wonder-Watcher." Hence, Nick sets off on his watching adventures, which are full of wonder and enhanced by his imagination.
