I am grateful to Geir Lie for his book on Norwegian Pentecostal missionaries in Africa, from the very start of the Pentecostal movement in Europe until more recent times. There are many parallels between this story and that of my own research into early Pentecostalism. When researching Pentecostal missionary archives for my Spreading Fires, with a substantial chapter on Africa, I could not read the reports of Pentecostal missionaries who wrote in languages other than English. There was a very significant number from Nordic countries, who also made a direct impact on the future direction of African Christianity. My focus was limited to the earliest missionaries up until around 1930 and the reports they wrote for their supporters in the English-speaking world. This book goes past this time into the rest of the twentieth century, providing invaluable information otherwise not available to scholars like me.
