This is contrasted with the difference that God's grace, love, and wisdom can make in a veteran's life and destiny. The author's life story also raises some questions about war such as-

• Do people today understand what soldiers experienced in the midst of guerrilla warfare in the jungle of South Vietnam against an enemy that was committed to outlasting the USA's resolve?
