Forgiveness has been shown to elevate mood, enhance optimism, and guard against anger, stress, anxiety, and depression. It is the quickest way to a speedy recovery. Still, it appears to be the hardest thing for mankind to acknowledge. Studies have found that the act of forgiveness can reap enormous rewards for your health, lowering the risk of heart attack; improving cholesterol levels and sleep; and reducing pain, blood pressure, and levels of anxiety, depression, and stress. The Bible teaches that unselfish love is the basis for true forgiveness, since "it keeps no record of wrong" (1 Corinthians 13:5). Forgiveness doesn't have a statutory limit. It does not end with a mistrial, nor is there an appeal process. Forgiveness doesn't require a receipt but a zero balance. There is no annual audit or review. Resentment vanishes when forgiveness shows up.
