God created the universe, heaven and earth, and everything and everyone therein. Acknowledging God's sovereignty above all and accepting the fact that we must rely on God for everything would be such an easy thing to do if we weren't constantly struggling with the desires of our hearts.

The primary reason behind our struggle is pride--always trying to control things, stopping us from trusting God and living for His glory, and instead attempting to take His place. This is the exact reason the spiritual enemy was cast out of the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, he made it his priority to drag us down with him, to be lost eternally.

When we refuse to surrender to God, our journey becomes more difficult. A prideful heart brings people closer to the enemy; meanwhile, a humble heart brings us closer to God, our heavenly Father. Although it's impossible for the spiritual enemy to be redeemed, for us humans God's arms remain wide open, calling us home.

Humility is the key to redemption and starts with welcoming the love God showed us by giving us Jesus Christ. He came down to teach, lead, and set the perfect example for us through love. Among all the virtues we learn about from Jesus's teachings, humility is the starting point for a Christian life that makes believers heirs to God's kingdom.

When we realize we are, in fact, sinners who have done things that are not right in His sight and that we need a Savior, a loving friend, and a Redeemer to restore our broken relationship with God, we open our hearts to surrender and receive all the blessings that were meant for us from the beginning. Therefore, we must learn to submit to God in humility and abide in His Word to inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Knowing God and dwelling in His presence is the greatest privilege we could ever enjoy, but He despises a prideful and arrogant heart. The sooner we humble ourselves before God, the more quickly we can move forward in our lives.
