A Bond Never Broken

Bond Never Broken by Judith Miller from the Daughters of Amana series tell the story of a young girl, Ilsa Redlich growing up in the in the villages of Amana Colonies during the great war in 1971.

Ilsa Redlich lived a normal life, helping her parents run a hotel in South Amana, but when the USA entered the Great War her life began to dramatically change. The town’s surrounding the Amana Colonies residents used to be accepting of their quiet, peaceful neighbours, but with anti-German sentiment sweeping the country, the Amanans now face persecution from their former friends.

Jutta Schmidt is forced by several members of the Council of National, after they show up on her doorstep, to return to Amana and report back on any un-American activities. Not daring to disobey government agents, she takes a job at the South Amana hotel and try’s to eavesdrop at every chance she gets. But if Jutta Schmidt observes anti-war behaviour, will she betray the people she's come to love?

When Jutta hears that Ilsa’s childhood sweetheart is accused of something that is far worse than anything she can imagine, can the Amana community and the pair of them come to his rescue?
