Lilith and Azazael, Hell's greatest general, make a bet to settle their hatred of each other: Each will have a child with a mortal and their progeny will settle the score.

Malachi Ben Sinai, born of a nomad woman and raised by the kindly Thadeus, wants nothing more than to live a life of peaceful existance. Ra, Lilith's son by an Eqyptian Pharoah, sees the mild Malachi as a pushover to be tortured and destroyed. Their rivalry spans the centuries from the birth of Christ through the Roman Coliseum and on into the modern age.

Malachi despises the birthright offered to him, rejecting it with all of his heart and soul. Ra keeps pushing, punishing anyone close to Malachi.
