A beastling shows up at Marvin's school! The War of Kingdoms is getting close to home! Marvin and Amy return to the Directions Dimension along with their friends Tom and Billy, and the Manager greets them in a way they never expected. They drink from the River of Life and become older and stronger without having anymore birthdays! They are given eyeglasses that help them to see things as they really are. The children learn fighting skills at the Lightning Camp, and they are sent on a mission, along with their friend Apple, to find the Great Book of Directions and bring it safely back to the camp before the Beast and his beastlings capture it and destroy the directions of the universe. The children learn that what you see with your eyes and what is real are two different things.
