Rol's peacefully predictable world is turned upside down when he becomes the leader of his small village, responsible for the safety and well-being of its inhabitants even as they are unexpectedly attacked by unknown forces. The dire situation requires every bit of courage he can gather to attempt to repel the attackers and discover their malicious intent.

He also has to keep his friends Fhfyrd and Kearth from making basically everything monumentally more frustrating with their comical and seemingly never-ending antics and bickering.
