Why did Graham and Philippa Piper with their young family, leave England in 1985 to say 'yes' to the adventure of going to Uganda to develop rural community water projects? How did they cope as they faced living without running water and consistent power, especially when the ensuing civil war broke out? Problems still not uncommon to many people on this planet today. The memoir shares their story of cultural adaptation, learning from their Ugandan colleagues and neighbours, building long lasting friendships along the way.

It is a patchwork of joys and frustrations not only as water projects take shape, but as visits to the local prison bring new life and a nursery school and a disabled children's playground are both established. Who knew Philippa's teaching on health prevention in vaccination clinics, schools and colleges would become vitally significant as a new disease 'Slim' spreads its dark shadow across the landscape, affecting so many lives? What transformation occurs as their faith is put to the test? You will laugh, and may even cry as you read how they, and their Ugandan friends faced adversity with humour and determination, supported by others in Switzerland and the UK.
