    Product Description

Christmas Evans (1766-1838) was described by D. M. Lloyd-Jones as 'the greatest preacher that the Baptists have ever had in Great Britain'. This remarkable one-eyed Welshman came from humble beginnings to exercise powerful preaching ministries throughout Wales, particularly in Anglesey and the North. In this thoroughly researched biography, Tim Shenton paints an honest picture of Christmas Evans, not excusing or overlooking his faults, but demonstrating how this gentle and humble man, who possessed the spirit of prayer to a remarkable degree, was used by God for the extension of his kingdom in Wales.

Christmas Evans – No Ordinary Preacher

The publisher writes – ‘Christmas Evans (1766-1838) was described by D.M.Lloyd-Jones as ‘the greatest preacher that the Baptists have ever had in Great Britain’.
I read through this book with a sense of wonder. First how a man from such humble beginnings was able through his own perseverance to rise above the many difficulties of his early life, to come to Christ and be offered free tuition at his Pastor’s school; not only did he have to learn the usual lessons but the English language too: but then to start preaching at an early age long before others thought him ready, and after he had lost an eye in a street attack. He steadily grew in his faith and moved his allegiance to the Baptists who he was to serve for the rest of his life. This is a fascinating history of the times, with Christmas Evans being a leading light throughout the land of Wales, facing many trials but always pressing on to preach to yet more needy people.
