For the Biblical scholar, however, and especially for the textual critic, the greatest value of the Peshitta of Ezra lies in the fact taht it has in forty-two instances preserved the original reading, and therefore it must be employed to reconstruct the Hebrew text of the Massorites. --from the Introduction Charles Arthur Hawley (b. 1889) is the author of 'The Teaching of Old Testament History, ' 'The Teaching of the Prophets, ' and 'The Teaching of Apocrypha and Apocalypse.'
