In this provocative reassessment of early church tradition, Thomas C. Oden calls for a new openness to the St. Mark of African memory-a living tradition which holds the Second Gospel writer to be a North African and the founder of the church in Alexandria. The result is an illuminating portrait that challenges longstanding assumptions in the West.
