I was apprehensive about reading John Eldredge’s Killing Lions. I wasn’t overly enamoured by his break-out book Wild At Heart and ‘Christian self-help’ isn’t a genre I read much of. But by the end of the first chapter of Killing Lions, I found myself fast repenting of my prejudices.
Far from being a boring or patronising read, Killing Lions turned out to be one of the best books I’ve ever read! It takes the form of a back and forth discussion between John and hisson Sam on issues including decision making and life after university. Sam drives the agenda, and not his father. This results in John giving great answers to real problems the younger generation faces. The fact that Sam and I share the same first name, profession (writer) and age (25) no doubt helped make this book come alive to me.
But I’m convinced that this book will be helpful for any young man; an encouraging, pastoral and overall fascinating read.
